Payson Life Style

Life in the Arizona Rim Country in and near Payson can be as active or as laid back as you want it to be.

Surrounded by the Tonto National Forest, the Sitgreaves National Forest, State Parks, and Tribal Land, only about 5% of the land in the Rim Country is privately owned.

This means that you are never far from panoramic beauty here.

The Rim Country region extends from Roosevelt Lake to the south to the world's largest Ponderosa Pine Forest to the north, up through Happy Jack, and midway between Payson and Show Low to the east.

What's your passion? Hiking? Camping? Hunting? Fishing?  Golf? Water sports? Horses? Dogs? Llamas?

What are you into?  Archaeology? Geology? Astronomy? Writing? Music? Photography? Art?

Maybe a little puttering?

In Payson, you cannot be a stranger, not for long, anyway.

One of the best things about this area is how easy it is to find solitary, private space when you want it, while you can also invite the whole gang along to enjoy.

Spontaneous, spur of the moment !

Miles and miles of trails await you, and your animal companions.

Speaking of animals, you share the Rim Country with the wildlife.

Around here, creature comfort takes on a whole new meaning.

Though town boasts some excellent restaurants, nothing compares to casual entertaining at home on the deck or maybe around a fire pit.

Special occasions happen all year.  The Hashknife Pony Express reenactment ride  every January features local riders who deliver US Mail from Holbrook to Scottsdale, straight through the Rim Country and on down the Beeline Highway.

Spring & summer, there are rodeos, antique car shows, and free concerts in Green Valley Park, not far from the Payson Golf Course.

There's unique shopping all the time, and Arts & Crafts shows most holiday weekends, spring through fall.

By the way, what is this Rim we talk about here in the Rim Country? It's the Mogollon Rim which rises about 2,000 feet to about 7,000 feet in elevation.  It is majestic and beautiful.  You can see it from just about everywhere around here.  And it's so big, they can notice it when they orbit Earth! Now that's a landmark!

Payson recently gained some nation attention. Check out the video from the Terry Bradshaw program, "Insights".
