The kind of climate you will find in our neck of the woods is really ideal for someone who has left areas back in the east, midwest or northwestern parts of our nation. Payson and the surrounding areas are located at approximately 5000 to almost 7000 feet in elevation. The Tonto National Forest has the largest stands of ponderosa pines in the world and is host to many forms of wildlife including mule deer, elk, black bear and cougar. These animals don't pose a threat to the populace of our area but can be seen in the surrounding woods, especially the deer and elk. Also many raptors, including owls, hawks and bald eagles, inhabit the area and can be seen in the skies. Below us lies the Sonoran Desert, running south to Mexico. Above us lies the Mogollon Rim, a 2000' escarpment which tops out in some areas near 8000' and extends all the way to New Mexico.

Since we are at tree line, we do get snow. Yes, we have four seasons, but we aren't burdened with the really harsh weather that people have to endure back east.
